KAREN MAUTHE PASSED AWAY

Karen passed away at 4:20 a.m. on Friday, October 8, 2010 at Christus St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  She died from complications due to a systemic infection caused by Severe Aplastic Anemia. She approached the study and treatment of her disease with the same intensity she applied to her yoga practice and teaching. She gave it her all.
There will be a memorial service on Thursday, October 14 at 5:00 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall, 1125 Cerrillos Road, where Karen’s Yoga Different classes were held.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Coming Home Connection, the organization that cared for Karen in the last few months of her life.

  1. My heart cried today when I came to this blog and found that dear Karen has passed. My thoughts and prayers are both with her family and especially all of you brave souls that have supported her in these last months. Her spirit and tenacity during this incredibly difficult time have inspired me from afar. I wish I could attend the memorial service this coming Thurs. to thank-you from my deepest heart for all you have done for her... You will all be in my thoughts and prayers. 3. I am so saddened to hear of Karen's passing. During her stay in Seattle I served as her caretaker - and was amazed at her strength on a daily basis. She confronted her illness with vigor and patience and I am honored to have known her. My sincere condolences to her entire family and to her extended yoga family.

    Namaste,

    Emily Eslick

  4. I miss Karen's voice which I eagerly listened to as I read her blog. I started Karen's yoga classes a year ago, and I became a great fan of hers quickly. Her enthusiasm was so infectious that I eventually set up a yoga corner at my house with yoga props similar to Karen's. Unfortunately, I will be out of town on Thursday, so I won't be able to attend her memorial. I also send my condolences to her family.
    Sincerely, Vicki Altenberg

  6. Thanks to all who have written, called or blogged.
Karen was so loved, much more than she ever realized (sadly).
We are being quiet now her family and local caregivers but cannot thank you enough for your love for my daughter.
It has been a very rough six months but now Karen is free from the pain.
Blessing to you all, Fran Sanders

  7. Today I came here for the first time in 3 weeks to see how Karen was doing and found she has passed away. I am so sorry. I had so hoped she would win this battle. Count me among the many who found Karen's humor and strength in the face of her disease to be an inspiration. I am so sad!!!

But I hope Karen rests peacefully.
