A Plea for More Entertainment

My sleek BMW of juicers unfortunately seems to share some of the characteristics I've often heard about BMW.....hard to maintain.   Darn it.  Somewhat difficult to clean.  And, just for the record,  the juicer that is supposed to juice all things, the Green Star 5000, doesn't like blueberries.    Nope.   Don't do it.   No blueberries.  I guess I'll have to use the blender for the blueberries in the future.   Very sad.

Platelets on Thursday was actually 59! which is quite a boost from the transfustion I had on Wednesday.
Platelets on Friday was 32.   Quite a drop.   Darn it.   I'm wondering if the movie that I watched that made me cry contributed to the drop.   Lately, I've had a knack for picking out movies on hulu.com that involve some terrible the-person-is-to-young-to-die death disease.   Strange.

So.  This is a call for your favorite, uplifting, non-violent, non-depressing DVD and/or book.    I don't need too many, but I would love to borrow a few to keep me entertained at night.

  1. Karen, Just recently I decided to buy a good juicer - After my research I bought the Omega Nutrition Center - sort of number two to yours but easy to clean. i haven't tried blueberries yet but I will and let you know how it goes. If you want total nonsense that will make you laugh ... watch The Hangover:) Dina

  3. I don't know, I have the Greenstar and although it doesn't do blueberries and has trouble with a few things, I sure do like it a lot! It makes nut butters and all kinds of good stuff. It's great with kale.

As for entertainment, for totally trash fiction that absorbed me completely (for some reason), the Sevenwaters series by Juliet Marillier was a recent one.

  4. I'll have a blueberry report by tonight:)
One reason I got it is it's good with leafy greens - does fine with Kale etc. Also does wheatgrass but I haven't tried it yet.
In general I guess these types of juicers don't do great with softer fruits like berries, bananas and tomatoes. I did tomatoes in my veggie juice - it works but you get a few small lumps - you just have to make sure and put something crunchy in after to push it through. It's a low RPM masticating juicer - that's good cause it doesn't heat up when it works and kill good enzymes.

  5. Blueberry Report: The Omega did spit the blueberry peeling out through the pulp ejector - the "juice" was thick - like the consistency of a smoothie. I think it was just the mushed up inside of the berry. I added a small green apple at the end to push out whatever soft stuff was left. I guess that's what it does with soft fruit -
Anything crunchy or fibrous comes out like normal juice consistency - does fine with kale.
Hope this helps - let me know if you need any other info. Good Luck!

  7. Hi Karen, I bought the Omega Nutrition Center 8006 - They also have an upright one called VERT VRT330. The juicer is the same just an upright version - I passed on it cause it was more expensive - also it doesn't do nut butters like the 8006. (not that I've done that yet ... but I will give it a try one of these days:)

    Take care,
    Dina
